  • Wow

    www.terranaomi.com

She just put up her video on YouTube and thanks to the power of the internet she’s pretty famous now. Check out the original video she posted here.  I wonder if you’ve all heard of her already? Maybe I’m just behind the times or something.

I wonder where she’d be without the internet? I hope this will be the future of music where artists will be able to use the internet to sell their songs and have people watch their videos directly without record labels/etc. The technology seems like it’s pretty much already there, it’s just a matter of time.

  • If you’re a Hugh Grant fan you should probably skip this.

Me and my neighbor were lazing around a couple of days ago and watching some TV, mostly flipping through channels. We came across the Bridget Jones Diary movie (I think the second one?), and she wanted to watch it. Apparently Hugh Grant is in it. I think I finally realized what it is about Hugh Grant that makes me hate him so much. He acts/looks like the guy at the bar that everyone thinks is a douche bag.

There’s a pretty funny Family Guy bit where they make fun of his being “charmingly befuddled” all the time, but unfortunately I can’t find it anywhere on the net.

  • I found this sign posted near the elevators in our building:

    IMG_9802

This is the happiest lost wallet sign I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m not really sure if this person is trying to find her wallet, show off her sweet drawing skills (check out the stars in the background!), or trying to meet guys*. First of all, the chance of getting your wallet back in our area of Brooklyn is really slim unless someone found it right away. Second, all she needed to do was write lost wallet in big letters and put her contact information on there. But she decided to make a mini project out of it.

    * Note, if she’s really attractive, I’ll change my opinion to thinking this sign is awesome.

  • There goes my neighborhood

    Found this on www.overheardinnewyork.com:

The Delis Are Going to Have to Start Selling Matzoh-Ball Soup

Black guy #1, noticing white guy walking down the street: Aw, man!
Black guy #2: There goes the neighborhood.
White guy: This is the cheapest rent in the city. You better believe my people are going to start moving here.

  • hair and lock troubles

Last weekend I was looking forward to a pretty relaxing Sunday, which included a plan to get a haircut. My cousin recommended this place in Park Slope called Rapunzel Rapunzel, which I thought was a strange but interesting name. He did get a good haircut there though. Unfortunately, the lady who owns the place was busy all Sunday, so I decided to go to the only other place open near me: Arias’ Unisex Salon.

Based on the word, “unisex” alone, I probably should have waited until Monday, but I really wanted to just get it out of the way. So I went to the place, and when I walked in, I realized that everyone was speaking Spanish. Also, I quickly realized that nobody there spoke english really. This is probably when I should have left and waited until Monday, but I figured if they can’t speak english and they have a hair salon, they must be good at cutting hair. I asked for a trim, and the lady nodded in what I thought was a show of understanding. She started cutting, and after a few cuts, I asked again if it was a trim because it seemed like she was cutting a lot. She was very positive in her response. So I figured, she must know what’s she’s doing, and I let her do her work. Huge mistake. 3 minutes later, half of my hair was gone! I started telling her in Spanish (which I can sort of speak/understand), that I only wanted a little bit of hair cut. I probably should have done this sooner, but I thought their understanding of english would be better than my speaking of spanish. She brought back one of those books with the photos of people with haircuts pointed to one guy with long hair. I said, “Si!”, and she got this look of, “oh shit!” on her face. At this point I just got out of the chair, paid her, and walked out, catching a glimpse of my now butchered hair in the mirror.

Luckily, my friend Lauren can cut hair pretty well, so I called her and left a message asking her to help me out.

Then I got home and my key wouldn’t work in our apartment door. I called the super and he said he was in the city and wouldn’t be back for 2 hours. I was really pissed because I had planned on sitting back on the old couch and watching some TV or reading. Then I remembered that Saje, this cafe/restaurant around the corner, was still open and I went there. Saje pretty much saved my Sunday, because the whole place is nice, relaxing, and has cheap food. I got myself some coffee and bagels, talked to a couple of my college buddies, and read TIME magazine cover to cover in the 2 hours I had to wait.

2 hours later, one of the nice maintenance guys helped me get into my apartment with a crowbar, and the next day Lauren helped me fix my terrible haircut.

  • overheard in new york

so me and my cousin are always talking about how sweet it would be to collect all the things you overhear in new york city. well here’s the site – http://www.overheardinnewyork.com !!

    my own addition:

<overheard outside of the club BED as we were walking out>
guy to his (i’m assuming) girlfriend:  i just threw up captain crunch for you! I just tossed some rice krispies!!
    </overheard>

we had no idea what he was talking about. our working theory is that he maybe got in a fight, got punched and threw up. any other ideas?

  • slip and fall

so i slipped and fell while running to catch the franklin avenue shuttle yesterday and landed right on my hip and now it’s all bruised. my fellow brooklyners were nice enough to ask if i was ok and help me gather the stuff i dropped. the funny thing is, they called me, “mister.” as in, “hey mister, you alright?” and “mister, you missed the train!”. i didn’t know people even used that word anymore! they also asked me if wanted to sue the transit authority. oh and today i saw one of the same guys that was there yesterday and he asked if he could borrow a pen and told me not to fall again :.
